Crowns / Bridges
Depending on your dental needs, your dentist may recommend a crown or bridge. A crown, also known as a cap, involves a single cap that fully encapsulates the tooth. A crown may be needed when a large filling is failing or if a cavity is too large to restore with a filling. If a patient needs a root canal, often times a crown will also be advised.
A bridge may be indicated as a treatment option for a patient who is missing a tooth. It involves the teeth to either side of the edentulous space and is permanently cemented on these teeth. It functions as a normal tooth and fills in the space where the tooth is missing. A new method of flossing (such as a dental threader) is needed for a bridge as it is at least three teeth fused together. Speak with your dental provider to see if you would be a candidate for crowns or bridges.
